Tuned 19/32/0 · 1 min b (19/32/0) is the build our search found for a one-minute single-boss fight. It runs Enhancement down to
Rage of the Farseer and puts the rest into Elemental, deep enough for
Improved Fire Nova, with nothing in Restoration.
050533102-055030031005102151 · Alliance (Dwarf) plays Tuned 18/33/0 · 1 min: +1 Improved Stormstrike, −1 Elemental FocusEvery fight and both factions get a build of their own from the search, and they part ways only on a handful of cheap points. The reasons below cover every one of them.
Why these talents
Stormstrike is your most valuable talent on a single boss, worth 18.8 % of your damage on a three-minute single-boss fight. Forever moved it to the 16-point tier and cut its cooldown to 8 seconds. It strikes with your weapon for 125 mana, and your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock hits 20 % harder. Its hit can proc Windfury Weapon and every talent that reads a melee hit.
Flurry gives your next three swings 25 % more attack speed after any melee crit, and it is worth 7.7 %. Windfury attacks and Stormstrike crit too, so it stays up 79.8 % of the fight. In Forever it needs
Mental Dexterity in place of Thundering Strikes.
Mental Dexterity is new: it gives you attack power equal to all of your Intellect, and it is worth 5.8 %.
Mental Quickness adds 30 % of your Intellect as spell damage (2.2 %), and
Ancestral Knowledge now raises Intellect by 10 % instead of your mana. Together they are why caster pieces sit in your gear.
Improved Fire Nova adds 20 % to
Fire Nova and takes its cooldown from 10 seconds to 6. It is worth 5.6 % on one boss and 17.1 % against three, where it is the most valuable talent you have.
Call of Flame adds 15 % more to Fire Nova, Flame Shock and your Searing Totem (2.8 %). Improved Fire Nova sits in Elemental's 4th row, behind 15 points, which is why the build goes that deep.
Maelstrom Weapon stacks on your melee hits. At five stacks your next
Lightning Bolt is instant and free, and it is worth 4.8 %. The client data gives no proc rate, so the simulator assumes 10 a minute at 5/5. Treat its worth as an estimate until someone counts procs in a log.
Shamanistic Focus cuts the cost of your shocks by 45 %, always. It is worth 4.9 % on three minutes, where your mana runs out, and almost nothing on one minute (0.2 %), where it doesn't.
Elemental Devastation gives you 9 % melee crit for 10 seconds after any spell crit, and Fire Nova and your shocks keep it up 54.3 % of the fight. Blizzard moved it to row 2 to pull Enhancement into Elemental, and it is worth 2.8 %.
Thundering Strikes adds 5 % crit to your spells as well as your weapon now (4.5 %).
Rage of the Farseer is 30 % attack speed for 25 seconds on a three-minute cooldown, and it no longer speeds your casts. It is worth 5.7 % on a one-minute single-boss fight and 1.9 % on a three-minute single-boss fight: you press it once on either, and 25 seconds cover far more of a one-minute fight.
Flexible points
The cheap points sit in Elemental's first two rows and in the mana talents.
- Convection, Concussion and Reverberation. Every build puts at least three points in
Concussion and four in
Reverberation, and some move a point or two into
Convection's mana savings. Reverberation takes the shocks' shared cooldown from 6 seconds to 5 at 5/5, and its last point is worth 0.9 % here.
Improved Stormstrike. At 2/2 every Stormstrike gives you 15 seconds of 50 % mana regeneration while casting, so it never drops. It is worth 0.2 % on long fights and nothing on one minute (0.0 %). Its other half resets Stormstrike when you dodge or parry, which never happens when the boss is on the tank.
Elemental Focus makes one spell in ten free and is worth 0.1 %. On one minute it scores −0.1 %, inside the noise, so a one-minute build can drop it.
Ancestral Knowledge and
Elemental Weapons. The last point of each is worth well under 1 % (0.2 % and 0.3 %), so some builds spend one elsewhere. Elemental Weapons raises Windfury Weapon's attack power bonus by 40 % at 3/3.- Spirit Weapons, Toughness and Anticipation do nothing for your damage: the boss never attacks you.
What each talent is worth
The simulator took out one talent at a time and ran the same fights again, and the loss is that talent's value. Each was taken with everything else in place, so two values don't add up. The "last point" column, what the final point adds alone, is the one for a spare point.
On every fight
Across the fights the core never moves. On one minute the mana talents fall to nothing, so those builds take a point out of Improved Stormstrike or Elemental Focus and fill Concussion and Reverberation. Against three bosses Improved Fire Nova goes to the top of the table and Call of Flame climbs with it, because Fire Nova hits all three. Every fight's build is in the table, with what it moves against this one.
