Smite Priest Talents

On one boss for one minute the factions' searched builds part ways. The Horde build (31/17/3) goes 31 points into Discipline for Power Infusion. The Alliance build (19/25/7) keeps the longer fights' Holy and Shadow points and spends less on mana.

Every fight and faction gets a build of its own from the search. The core below is in all of them.

Why these talents

Divine Fury takes 0.5 seconds off Smite and Holy Fire. Smite casts in 2.0 seconds instead of 2.5, so you fit a quarter more of them into a fight, and Holy Fire drops to 3.0 seconds. It is one of your two most valuable talents on one boss, and on a one-minute single-boss fight it is worth 12.2 % of your damage. Searing Light needs it.

Holy Precision adds 18 % hit to your Holy spells. On our simulator's table your spells miss a raid boss 17 % of the time, so without it about one Smite in six would miss. With it Smite, Holy Fire and Holy Nova sit at the 1 % that always misses. It is worth 12.9 %.

Power in Light makes Smite hit 2 % harder per point, 10 % at 5/5, while your Holy Fire burns on the target. That bonus is why the rotation refreshes Holy Fire before it runs out: the dot is up 83.1 % of the fight, and the talent is worth 5.0 %.

Meditation keeps half your Spirit regeneration going while you cast, where Classic kept 15 %. Mana is what limits a long fight: the talent is worth 5.7 % on one boss for three minutes and 13.1 % against three bosses for three.

Searing Light adds 5 % to all your Holy damage, 2 % at one point. Its other half gives each Holy Fire tick a 10 % chance at a free Holy Nova, which only counts in a build that has Holy Nova. It is worth 3.9 %.

Improved Shadow Word: Pain adds 6 seconds, two more ticks for the same mana. It is worth 2.8 % against one boss and 8.2 % against three, since every boss carries the dot there.

Mental Agility at 3/3 takes 10 % off Smite, Holy Fire and your instant spells, worth 1.8 % on one boss and more where mana runs short. Holy Specialization adds 5 % crit to Holy spells for 1.8 %, and Shadow Focus adds Shadow hit for Shadow Word: Pain and Devouring Plague.

Flexible points

  • The path points. Twilight Focus, Improved Renew, Blessed Recovery, Inspiration and Improved Healing are how the builds reach Searing Light (15 Holy points) and Spiritual Guidance (20). They are worth nothing in our sims, because the simulated boss never hits you and you cast no heals. Put them in Twilight Focus first: its 70 % chance to keep a cast from being pushed back by damage is the only one of them that protects your damage in a real raid.
  • Spiritual Guidance. It turns 8 % of your Spirit into spell damage, about 20 with this gear, and is worth 1.7 % on one boss. Some three-boss builds leave it out for Discipline points.
  • Twin Disciplines and Mental Strength. On one boss their last points are close: 0.2 % and 0.2 %. Most three-boss builds take both to 5/5. Twin Disciplines gains there because Shadow Word: Pain on three bosses is most of your instant damage.
  • Inner Focus. On one boss it makes one Holy Fire every three minutes free, with 25 % more chance to crit, worth 0.2 %. For the Horde on three bosses it scores below zero (−0.6 %), and two Alliance three-boss builds leave it out, so the point can go elsewhere there.

Power Infusion on one minute

The Horde build goes 31 points into Discipline for Power Infusion: 20 % more spell damage for 15 seconds, cast at the pull alongside Berserking. It is worth 4.7 %. Our simulator can only cast it on yourself, so whether it does more on another caster is something it can't tell you.

The points on the way do little. Penance is required for Power Infusion, but casting it scores below zero (−1.2 %): the sim does better when you spend that time on Smite. Learn it and leave it off your bars. Divine Aegis and Martyrdom add nothing in a boss fight.

What each talent is worth

A talent's value here is what the sim loses when the build runs again without that talent's points. They overlap, so their sum isn't your damage. Read the last-point column when a single point is in question.
