· 1 boss · 1 min · Pre-raid

Our gear search built this set from the pre-raid pool, the items Forever has published with a source you can reach before the raids, and it averages item level 59.6. Spell damage decides almost every slot. Two small hit pieces hold their places because you sit so far below the hit cap, and both factions end up in nearly the same set.

Under each slot are the next items in line and what each would cost on this fight. Where a swap reads "level", the two are within the simulation's noise and either will do.

Staff

Ironbark Staff is the staff on every fight, with 94 spell damage and 2 % crit. It comes from Arathi Basin: the Horde buys it from Rutherford Twing at Exalted with The Defilers, the Alliance from Samuel Hawke at Exalted with The League of Arathor. Until you have the reputation, Crackling Staff costs 8.4 DPS.

Trinkets

Talisman of Ascendance is the set's most valuable single item: the next best trinket costs 25.2 DPS. It is a quest reward in the Eastern Plaguelands. Our simulator lets its stacks run the full 20 seconds, where the item ends them after six spells, so part of that lead is ours and not the game's. Weakness Analyzer is sold by Pix Xizzix in Stranglethorn Vale. We count its 22 spell damage but not its use, 5 % crit until your next crit, so it is worth a little more than shown.

Idol

The two idols that matter are level on one boss: Idol of the Moon adds up to 33 damage to Moonfire, and Swarming Idol keeps Insect Swarm up 2 seconds longer. Against three bosses the Swarming Idol's extra tick lands on every boss, and it leads the next idol by 18.1 DPS. Idol of the Moon is a world drop that binds when equipped, so you can buy it. Pix Xizzix sells the Swarming Idol. If you raid against several bosses, buy the Swarming Idol first.

Legs and head

Ironfeather Leggings are the slot with the biggest gap among the armor: the next pair, Sentinel's Silk Leggings, costs 12.5 DPS. Like Living Crown, they are a Leatherworking craft that binds when equipped, so you can buy them. For the Horde on one boss, the engineer's Spellpower Goggles Xtreme Plus are level with the crown.

Low-level crafts

Gloves of the Greatfather (item level 38) and Earthen Silk Slippers (item level 36) are low-level crafts that still win their slots, because Forever gives each of them 24 spell damage. The gloves add 10 Nature damage on top. Both bind when equipped.

Reputation and vendors

Brilliant Watcher's Signet comes from The Watchers at Exalted. The Revered version of the ring is the next best (level). Pix Xizzix in Stranglethorn Vale sells three more pieces of the set: Arcanoweave Cloak, Blessed Band of Light and the Weakness Analyzer. On one boss the cloak and the band are your gear's only hit.

Enchants

  • Head and legs: Arcanum of Focus on both.
  • Staff: Mighty Spell Power, 55 spell damage, the largest enchant you have.
  • Hands: Natural Power.
  • Chest and feet: Mystic Rugged Armor Kit, a Forever armor kit with 6 spell damage.
  • Wrists: Healing Power, for the 8 spell damage that comes with it. Neck: Spell Power.

Consumables

The always-bring list: Flask of Supreme Power (13.7 %), Brilliant Wizard Oil on your staff (4.2 %), Greater Arcane Elixir (3.2 %) and Major Mana Potion (0.7 %). The flask alone is worth more than most talents, because 150 spell damage reaches every spell.

The rest are small on one boss. Cerebral Cortex Compound gives 0.4 %, Runn Tum Tuber Surprise 0.3 %, and Mageblood Elixir 0.0 %, since you end a one-boss fight with mana left. Against three bosses for three minutes the mana items count: the potion is worth 7.1 % there and Mageblood 0.5 %.
