· 1 boss · 1 min · Pre-raid

The set is built around one two-handed weapon, and your race decides which one. Every other piece can be had before the first raids open on 9 December, from dungeons, quests, crafting, reputations and vendors, and only items whose Forever stats are published are in the search. The set averages item level 61.9, and its hit stops just short of the 9 % a two-hander needs.

Night Elf · the set the search found among the known items · item level 61.9 · next best: the set with that item instead · item policy

The right-hand column ranks the alternatives for each slot by what they cost on this fight. Where it reads "level", the gap is inside the sim's noise.

Two-handed weapons

On the single-boss fights two weapons trade places, both at 61.5 DPS. The Forest Defender's Axe is a Blacksmithing axe. It binds on equip, so any smith can sell you one. Orcs want it: Axe Specialization's 1 % crit and Weaponmaster's 5 % both count with it. The The Unstoppable Force is a slower two-handed mace with 2 % crit, sold in Alterac Valley and bound on pickup. With a mace, Weaponmaster ignores 15 % of the boss's armor instead, and Dwarves get Mace Specialization. The Night Elf set takes the mace on three minutes and the axe on one. The Undead set takes the mace on two. For an Orc on three minutes the gap between them reads level, so wear whichever you get first.

The mace's slower swing helps it. Every ability adds your weapon's own damage roll, and at 3.6 seconds the mace rolls bigger hits than the 3.3-second axe. The slower swing costs you no rage, since a two-hander makes the same rage per second at any speed.

On three minutes the Human's best pre-raid weapon isn't a sword, so Sword Specialization adds nothing there. The Human three-boss, three-minute set takes the Arcanite Champion, a Blacksmithing sword whose proc adds 120 Strength for 30 seconds. The one-minute three-boss build wears the Corruption, a sword, for Weaponmaster's extra attacks.

Head and legs

Two smithing crafts carry the set: Lionheart Helm and Titanic Leggings, with 2 % hit apiece, nearly half the set's total. Nothing else comes close in either slot. Dropping to the runner-up helm loses 31.4 DPS here, and to the runner-up legs 19.0 DPS. Both bind on equip, so you can buy them from a Blacksmith.

Trinkets

The Adaptive Combat Assistant is the set's only source of expertise, 2 %. Pix Xizzix sells it in Stranglethorn Vale. The Rune of the Guard Captain adds 0.7 % hit and 14 attack power. Its attack power triples in forest and grassland zones. Our boss fight has no zone type, so only the base 14 counts, and in a forest raid the trinket would be worth more than this guide shows.

Reputation and the rest

On most fights the shoulders and gloves are Exalted rewards from Forever's new reputations (Horde: Darkspear Raiders; Alliance: Theramore Expeditionary Force). The Ferocious Watcher's Signet is The Watchers' Exalted ring. On most fights its next best is its own Revered version (on three minutes the gap reads level), so wear that while you finish the reputation. The waist, wrists and ranged slot are the cheapest to leave for later: on this fight the gaps to their next-best items read level, level and level.

Enchants

  • Weapon: Crusader. Its Holy Strength proc covers about 53.9 % of the fight.
  • Head and legs: Lesser Arcanum of Voracity on the head and Lesser Arcanum of Voracity on the legs. The search picks between Arcanum of Rapidity (1 % haste) and Lesser Arcanum of Voracity (8 Strength) slot by slot and fight by fight.
  • Chest: Greater Stats. Wrists and gloves: Superior Strength on both.
  • Boots: Greater Agility. Cloak: Lesser Agility. Necklace: Strength, since Forever lets you enchant one.

Consumables

Bring these every time: Elixir of the Mongoose (2.2 %), Mighty Rage Potion (4.2 %), Juju Power (1.8 %), an Elemental Sharpening Stone on your weapon (1.3 %), R.O.I.D.S. (1.5 %) and Smoked Desert Dumplings (1.2 %). You carry one weapon, so one stone, and it stays on with a Windfury Totem in your group.

The potion matters most on short fights: on a one-minute fight against three bosses it is worth 8.0 %, where its 60 rage lands with Death Wish and Recklessness. The rest add a little: Juju Might (1.1 %), the Goblin Sapper Charge (1.4 %, Engineering only) and Dragonbreath Chili (0.4 %). Flask of the Titans adds damage only for an Undead, through Touch of the Grave, and then only 0.3 % on two minutes. The defensive elixirs add nothing to your damage.
