Destruction Warlock Rotation

engine 53f4a3c10,000 iterations12 Octbenchmark on 1 boss · 1 minbeta data: unverified until level 60 opensupdated 12 Oct 2026How this is measured

· 1 boss · 1 min · Pre-raid

Destruction plays an upkeep priority. You keep a curse, a bane and two dots on the boss, press your instant nukes when they come off cooldown, and fill every other global cooldown with Shadow Bolt. There is no burst window to save for, and mana comes from Life Tap, so the list is about what to refresh and when.

Before the pull

  1. 1At -1.5 s: Cast Life Tap

Summon your Imp and use Demonic Sacrifice on it before you do anything else. The 15 % Shadow buff lasts two hours, but summoning any demon cancels it, so leave the pet bar alone after that. The simulated warlock taps once a couple of seconds before the pull. The line is worth 0.0 %, nothing you would notice.

Priority

Each time you can cast, use the highest line that is ready. It isn't a fixed order: most globals fall through to Shadow Bolt.

  1. 1Cast the potion if time remaining ≥ 15 s and mana % ≤ 75%1.0/min–
  2. 2Cast Demonic Rune if time remaining ≥ 15 s and mana % ≤ 90%1.0/min–
  3. 3Use the other cooldowns as they come up+55 DPS · 7.4 %
  4. 4Cast Shadowburn if time remaining ≤ 1.53.8/min+13 DPS · 1.8 %
  5. 5Cast Searing Pain if time remaining ≤ 3.51.3/min+11 DPS · 1.4 %
  6. 6Cast Life Tap if mana % < 5%1.0/min–
  7. 7Cast Curse of the Elements if Curse of the Elements not active on the target1.1/min+44 DPS · 5.9 %
  8. 8Cast Bane of Agony if Bane of Doom not ticking and Bane of Agony remaining ≤ Bane of Agony cast time3.3/min+87 DPS · 11.7 %
  9. 9Cast Corruption if Corruption remaining ≤ Corruption cast time3.3/min+74 DPS · 9.9 %
  10. 10Cast Immolate if Immolate remaining ≤ Immolate cast time3.4/min+29 DPS · 3.9 %
  11. 11Cast Shadowburn3.8/min+5.7 DPS · 0.8 %
  12. 12Cast Shadow Bolt15/min+368 DPS · 49.4 %
the first line that can run does, every time you can act · worth: the rotation without that line, on the same simulated fights

The widget lists every line the simulated warlock plays, with its casts and its worth. The ones whose reasons it can't show:

  1. Curse of the Elements if the boss doesn't have it. It lasts five minutes, so it is one global at the pull. In Forever a curse and a bane sit on the boss side by side, so it never pushes your bane off. The line is worth 5.9 % of your own damage, before counting the raid's casters.
  1. Bane of Agony as your bane. Bane of Doom only hits a minute after you cast it, so on a one-minute fight Agony holds the bane slot from the pull. It is worth 11.7 %.
  1. Corruption and Immolate as they run out. Recast each one when its time left is no longer than its cast time, so the new one lands as the old one ends. Immolate is worth 3.9 %, Corruption 9.9 %.
  1. Shadowburn on cooldown. Without Shadow and Flame nothing refunds its Soul Shard, so bring a few. It is worth 0.8 %.
  1. Shadow Bolt with every other global, worth 49.4 %.
  1. Life Tap only if you run dry. On a one-minute fight your mana bar, the potion and the rune cover the whole fight, and the line is worth 0.0 %.
  1. Searing Pain in the last few seconds. Our fights end at a fixed time, so the list switches to the 1.5-second Searing Pain about five seconds from the end, and to Shadowburn in the last 1.5 where the build has it. On a real boss, do the same when it is about to die. The Searing Pain line is worth 1.4 %.

Drink a Major Mana Potion or use a Demonic Rune once their mana won't overflow, as long as 15 seconds of the fight are left. Their own lines are worth nothing, because the cooldown line would use them anyway.

More than one target

Against three bosses Destruction becomes a dot caster: Corruption, Immolate and Bane of Agony go on every boss, and Shadow Bolt falls to 12.3 % of the damage on three minutes, against 30.4 % from Corruption alone.

Curse of the Elements and, from two minutes up, Bane of Doom stay on the boss you face. Rain of Fire and Hellfire were in the starting three-boss rotation, and the search switched both off: three dots on three bosses beat them. Our three-boss rotation curses only the boss you target. In a raid, make sure every boss carries Curse of the Elements. One warlock can curse all three.

Cooldowns

Destruction has no damage cooldown of its own. What the cooldown list holds is mana and one trinket:

  • Talisman of Ascendance goes out on cooldown, once a minute from the pull. Its stacks come from your next spells, so use it before a run of Shadow Bolts, not before a Life Tap.
  • Your racial. Trolls use Berserking at the pull. Orcs press Blood Fury on cooldown.
  • Mana potion and Demonic Rune go by your mana, not the clock (above). On a three-minute fight that is two of each.
