Stormcaller Shaman Rotation

engine 53f4a3c10,000 iterations12 Octbenchmark on 1 boss · 1 minbeta data: unverified until level 60 opensupdated 12 Oct 2026How this is measured

· 1 boss · 1 min · Pre-raidcommunity build

Stormcaller plays a filler rotation with upkeep and a mana budget. You keep a fire totem down and Flame Shock ticking, Lightning Bolt fills every other cast, and how much mana you have against the time left decides which rank of the bolt you use.

Before the pull

  1. 1At -3 s: Cast Lightning Bolt

Start a Lightning Bolt two or three seconds before the pull. With Elemental Alacrity it casts in 2 seconds and then flies for about a second from 20 yards, so it hits just as the fight begins. Without it you lose 2.8 % of your damage, more on short fights.

Priority

Each time your global cooldown comes back, start at line 1 and cast the first spell that is ready with its condition met. Nearly every pass ends on a bolt.

  1. 1Cast Searing Totem if number of bosses = 1 and Searing Totem not ticking2.0/min+17 DPS · 3.1 %
  2. 2Use the other cooldowns as they come up+34 DPS · 6.2 %
  3. 3Cast Flame Shock if Flame Shock not ticking5.5/min+30 DPS · 5.5 %
  4. 4Cast Chain Lightning if number of bosses ≥ 2 or mana ≥ time remaining × 1564.9/min+9.7 DPS · 1.8 %
  5. 5Cast Lightning Bolt if mana ≥ time remaining × 3522/min+336 DPS · 62.1 %
the first line that can run does, every time you can act · worth: the rotation without that line, on the same simulated fights

The reasons behind each line:

  1. Searing Totem whenever it's down. It lasts 55 seconds, attacks the boss from your feet within 20 yards, and costs only a one-second global cooldown. Worth 3.1 %.
  2. Trinket, racial and mana items when ready. Talisman of Ascendance, Blood Fury for Orcs, the potion and the rune share this line. The Cooldowns section below has their timing.
  3. Flame Shock whenever it isn't on the boss. The direct hit and its four ticks can all crit, and Call of Flame raises both. It shares a cooldown with your other Shocks, which you never cast. Worth 5.5 %.
  4. Chain Lightning when you have mana to spare. On a one-minute fight the reserve check lets it in late, once your mana is clearly more than the fight can use. The line is worth 1.8 % here. On three minutes it scores below zero.
  5. Lightning Bolt at its top rank while your mana covers the time left. The condition keeps a reserve for every second still to go, so the bar empties as the boss dies and not before. It is your main damage: worth 62.1 %.

The one-minute rotation has no rank 4 line: your mana lasts a minute.

More than one target

Three bosses side by side change four things.

Drop Magma Totem instead of Searing Totem. It hits every enemy within 8 yards of the totem for 73 Fire every 2 seconds, and on a three-minute fight against three bosses it does 23.9 % of your damage, a line worth 18.3 %. Our simulator doesn't check that range, so the number assumes you stand within 8 yards of the bosses or move the totem there with Totemic Projection.

Keep Flame Shock ticking on each of the three bosses: 9.4 % of your damage hangs on that line. Every three-boss set wears the Burning Totem, which stretches Flame Shock to 15 seconds, and the three-minute build adds Reverberation's fifth point, so one Shock every 5 seconds covers all three. Shamanistic Focus is what makes three of them affordable.

Chain Lightning comes next whenever it is off cooldown, since each cast hits all three for 100, 70 and 49 %. It does 19.8 % of your damage over three minutes.

On two and three minutes, rank 4 Lightning Bolt becomes your filler, 26.7 % of your damage over three minutes. Rank 10 only goes out while your mana is well ahead of the fight.

Cooldowns

Nothing here is worth holding for a boss phase. The build's cooldowns are a trinket, a racial and two mana items, and each goes out when ready. Talisman of Ascendance is used at the pull and on every cooldown after. Its buff grows by 40 spell damage with each of your next five spells, to 200, and lasts 20 seconds. Blood Fury is pressed at the pull and once more at two minutes, and Trolls use Berserking the same way.

The Major Mana Potion and Demonic Rune are held until the bar has room for everything they restore. On a three-minute single-boss fight the potion adds 3.7 % and the rune 1.6 %. On a three-minute fight against three bosses they rise to 9.5 % and 6.3 %.

What your log should show

Compare a Warcraft Logs report of your own with these numbers. Fewer bolts a minute than this means casts lost to movement, and a short Flame Shock count means it fell off the boss.

A clean log shows about 21.9 Lightning Bolts a minute across both ranks and near 67.5 % of your damage, Flame Shock near 16.6 %, and your bolts critting about 25.5 % of the time. Our table folds Lightning Overload's extra bolts into the Lightning Bolt row's hits and damage, not its casts.

Earth Shock, Frost Shock, Fire Nova, Lightning Shield and Stormstrike appear in none of the rotations this build was tuned on, so there is no number here for any of them.
